Some MARTA riders in Roswell can now rest easier, thanks to the efforts of a local Girl Scout troop.

Troop 10472, a group of sixth-graders at Elkins Pointe Middle School, noticed that no seating was available at many Roswell bus stops, prompting them to decide to raise money for a Simme Seat, a two-seater bench affixed to a bus stop sign post.

After meeting with officials and deciding on a heavily-used Mansell Road stop across from a Wal-Mart, the girls spent two years raising $800 through car washes, bake sales and cookie sales. The check was presented to the city and the seat installed on Aug. 28.

Elkins Pointe paraprofessional Susan Rickson said the troop decided on the project to earn the Bronze Award, which is presented to troops that successfully complete projects which benefit the entire community.
