Locating a preschool inside of a nursing home may seem  an odd choice, but bringing together the youngest and the oldest members of one Seattle community has created memorable moments which have been captured in a new documentary.

The Intergenerational Learning Center is located at Providence Mount St. Vincent, a senior care center in West Seattle.

Filmmaker Evan Briggs has captured the interactions of the preschoolers and the seniors in a documentary called, “Present Perfect.”

Briggs started a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the editing of the film. (She has since reached her goal.) Briggs paid for the filming out of her own pocket. She says the project helped her clearly see the generational segregation that exists in society.

Briggs also says the film helps convey the importance of living in the moment, as do children and many seniors with memory issues.

The filmmaker said that the senior residents would come alive as soon as the children arrived to participate in activities together. Briggs hopes that the idea of preschools in nursing homes will spread across the country.
