A woman says she bought a car from a Nissan dealership in Gwinnett County, and later found out her car has the wrong VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). She told Channel 2 Action News nobody at the dealership would help her resolve this error.

After Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes called the dealership, the woman says she's getting help from management. The woman did not want to be identified in the story.

Over the last five years, the Gwinnett County woman purchased three cars from the Mall of Georgia Nissan Dealership.

She bought the most recent car, a black Altima, in March 2015.

Two months later, when she brought it to the dealership service station for an oil change, they couldn't find her car in the system.

"They explained it to me that sometimes it takes a couple of months to register in the system," the woman said.

A year and three months later, employees at the car dealership couldn't find the woman's car in the system. That's when she started looking at her paperwork.

She realized the VIN on her documents doesn't match the VIN on the actual car in her possession, which means her insurance and registration are invalid.

"It was a scary experience to find out that I was driving a year, almost a year and a half, with an uninsured car, not my VIN that was on my contract with them," the woman said.

The woman spoke to several dealership staff members, but no one would help her resolve the issue so she called Channel 2.

Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes spoke with a manger at the dealership and later the general manager, Taylor Jackson, sent a statement that says in part, "The VIN numbers in the system got crossed...the necessary actions are being taken to correct the mistake on the paperwork."

The woman says she got several phone calls from the dealership.
