A woman visiting from Savannah and her daughter said they were ambushed and robbed at gunpoint early Sunday in southeast Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Vanessa Vonland and her mother were unloading their car after returning from a birthday party about 2 a.m. when two armed men jumped out of a bush and robbed them on Pearl Street in the Cabbagetown neighborhood, the television station reported.

The men took everything the women had, according to Channel 2.

“I looked over to my neighbors to see if anyone was watching and could help,” Vonland said. “I thought about screaming, but I thought they would shoot me. So I got on the ground, and I cooperated.”

Vonland’s mother, who didn’t want to be identified, told Channel 2 she was outraged.

“They not only did that to me, but they did that to my daughter,” Vonland’s mother said.

The gunmen, who were about 5-foot-8, then took off on Pearl Street and tried using the victims’ credit cards a couple hours after the robbery.

“Where do these people get off thinking that they can do this to you?” Vonland’s mother asked Channel 2.
