A trucker was convicted of assault for a 2017 Cobb County road rage incident that sent a driver to the hospital with a broken nose and other injuries, prosecutors said.

A Cobb jury found Quantuse Jace Johnson, 46, of Marietta, guilty last week of aggravated battery in the May 19, 2017, attack. That evening, Johnson came upon a broken-down car on South Cobb Drive just north of I-285 and confronted the driver. The victim tried to move the vehicle off the roadway, but the back of the car partially blocked a travel lane.

According to prosecutors, Johnson yelled at the other man to move his car, stopped his semitruck, got out and came up to the victim’s open car door. He punched the man in the face with a closed fist at least twice, the jury found, breaking his nose and the bones around his eye.

The victim did not have a chance to exit his car or defend himself, prosecutors said. He required surgery.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Brendan Murphy called the incident an act of “random violence fueled by road rage.”

Johnson was arrested by Smyrna police at the scene and reportedly told them he’d “lost his cool.” Witnesses at Johnson’s trial, which began March 18, included two Atlanta police officers eating at a nearby Chick-fil-A.

He is scheduled for sentencing April 12 before Cobb County Superior Court Chief Judge  Reuben Green. Johnson faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
