A Pickens County High school student faces a disorderly conduct charge after a BB gun was discovered Thursday in his vehicle on campus, authorities said.
In a Facebook post, the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said school resource officers were investigating the possibility of the teen threatening to kill another student when a teacher overheard a group talking about the same teen having a gun at school.
Administrators searched the student’s car and discovered a revolver-style BB gun that looked real, authorities said. They also found ammunition for another handgun that was not in the vehicle, deputies said.
“In 2019 alone, there were over 40 active shooter incidents that occurred in schools throughout the United States,” the sheriff’s office wrote Friday in its post. “Any time we receive information related to threats or weapons with school, we will ALWAYS take that threat seriously and investigate every incident to the fullest of our abilities. We are very thankful for those who brought this to our attention.”
The name and age of the student charged was not released.
