Q: Can you tell us what David Chandley is doing these days? Does he have plans to return to TV?

A: Chandley, who was a meteorologist at WSB-TV for 26 years, is spending his time away from TV with friends and family and providing forecasts and weather news through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube updates. Chandley left WSB-TV at the end of his contract in July and can't work in Atlanta until a 180-day non-compete clause expires on Jan. 8.

“My dream is to be a chief meteorologist,” Chandley told Q&A on the News, “and Glenn (Burns) is firmly entrenched (at WSB). He does a great job, so there wasn’t an opportunity there, and I had to go elsewhere. I have value to give somebody in that role, when we to get to that point.” In the meantime, he and his wife Lynn have traveled and “been tourists” in their town, visiting the College Football Hall of Fame, the World of Coca-Cola, Ebenezer Baptist Church and Sweet Auburn Curb Market.

Chandley, who lives in Inman Park, also was a fixture for years as co-host of the lighting of the tree at Macy’s, so he’s enjoying time with his family during the holidays. He also hopes to find a way to track Santa Claus for his fans on Christmas Eve. “I’m doing great. I’ve enjoyed the break. It’s allowed me to recharge and refocus, and I’m excited about the next step,” Chandley said. “Hopefully that will be happening after the first of year. Timing is everything.” Fox 5 has been without a chief meteorologist since Ken Cook retired last summer.
