Some middle school parents in Bartow County received a troubling call from their principal on Halloween.
Tia Windsor, principal of South Central Middle School, told parents two students were taken to the hospital after they came into contact with candy potentially laced with drugs, Channel 2 Action News reported.
The recorded message, obtained by Channel 2, said: “An incident today at South Central Middle School is currently under investigation. Officers suspect an eighth grade child sold a small amount of candy suspected to be laced with a controlled substance to a few other eighth grade students.”
A Bartow County School District spokeswoman told the news station that she couldn’t release more details beyond the principal’s message.
The father of one of the two students taken to the hospital told Channel 2 his daughter’s toxicology report came back negative, and she’s been released from the hospital. On Thursday, the news station reported the other student was also released from the hospital.
Channel 2 reported the principal said the student accused of bringing the candy to school could face charges. The principal said this was an isolated incident.
