The woman told police a high school student pistol-whipped her as she sat in her Mercedes-Benz outside the Lowe’s home improvement store at Camp Creek.
Another woman’s 2013 Lexus ES 350 was stolen April 16 as she was at the pump at the BJ’s Wholesale Club gas station, East Point police Det. Ebony Johnson said. BJ’s is next to the Lowe’s.
Shoppers told Channel 2 crime is spiraling out of control in the area, and no one is doing anything about it.
“We need better security,” shopper Noel Ross told Channel 2.
Camp Creek Marketplace is located off I-285 in the area of Camp Creek Parkway, which is frequently used to get to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Crimes near the shopping plaza in 2017 were 10 times higher than the national average for similar locations, Channel 2 reported.
“People getting beat, almost to death,” Ross said. “Old women getting robbed. Of course they should be doing more.”
