A second man has been arrested in a case involving a DeKalb County firefighter accused of setting a car on fire for insurance purposes.

Marlasta Hill was in the DeKalb County jail Tuesday, sheriff’s spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said. Hill is charged with first-degree arson, a felony, she said.

Last Friday, Jairius Hardaway, a 10-year veteran of the DeKalb fire department, was arrested and charged with arson in the case.

The fire occurred on Jan. 6 on River Road, DeKalb Fire Rescue Chief Darnell Fullum said Monday. Hill owned the car that was burned, according to Channel 2. Hardaway was not on duty at the time.

Hardaway, who was not on duty at the time of the fire, was placed on paid administrative leave., according to Channel 2 Action News. He also was out on bond.

Hill was a MARTA police officer for seven years until January, a spokesman for the transit authority said. He had since transferred to the computer maintenance department.

Investigators did not immediately provide additional significant details about the case.
