A 55-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested Friday while drinking on the beach and carrying a number of weapons.

Massachusetts State Police say Paul Martel was arrested on Nantasket Beach when someone said he was drinking and treating his dog "in an overly aggressive manner."

Officers say Martel had an open bottle of whiskey and was arrested for drinking on the beach, which is prohibited.

However, troopers searched Martell and say they found a loaded handgun and a large folding knife on him. While searching his car, police say they found more knives, a hatchet, a dagger and a double-sided machete.

Martell has been charged with possession of a firearm without a license, carrying a firearm with ammunition, carrying a dangerous weapon and consumption of alcohol on DCR property.

He is being held in lieu of $240 bail.
