A 34-year-old man had his finger “still on the trigger” of a gun when he was found shot Thursday, according to a DeKalb County police incident report.
Officers responded about 5 p.m. to a shooting behind a building at 230 Kaybrook Road, DeKalb County police Maj. Stephen Fore said.
“Upon arrival, we observed a victim laying on the ground, chest down, holding a black and silver firearm in his right hand, bleeding from the stomach region,” police said in an incident report.
One officer performed CPR on the victim, but a DeKalb County Fire and Rescue unit declared the man dead at the scene.
Latoria Lewis, who told police she was the victim’s girlfriend, said she heard shots and opened her apartment door to find an armed man approaching her, according to the incident report. She said he demanded money, then ran when she told him she didn’t have any.
The woman told police said she did not see the shooting.
No other details were released.
