A Gainesville man is in jail on a dozen charges after authorities said he nearly hit a deputy with his car.

Authorities were trying to arrest Donald Passmore on Wednesday after he tried to break into a storage building in the 3700 block of Baker Road and a home at the same address, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

The homeowner confronted him, and Passmore took off in his car, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Scott Ware said Thursday in a statement.

“He accelerated his vehicle, driving toward the deputy, causing the deputy to jump out of the vehicle’s path to avoid being struck,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Passmore, 39, was ultimately captured in the 3300 block of Baker Road and booked in the Hall County Jail on 12 charges, including aggravated assault on a peace officer, reckless driving and criminal trespass of property. Ware said he was driving on a suspended license.

Four of the charges stem from an unrelated incident in July 2018. Warrants were issued that month for Passmore’s arrest after he allegedly manufactured methamphetamine near a child.
