Two days after a robbery at a Dollar General in Spalding County, a suspect was taken into custody — after a two-hour SWAT standoff.

Reginald Collier, 23, is accused of robbing the store at 21 Bicycle Road on Wednesday, the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Around 2 p.m. Friday, investigators visited his apartment in the 800 block of North Hill Street after determining he was a suspect in the crime, the release said. However, as they entered the apartment, Collier allegedly ran and hid inside a closet.

From the closet, he was able to access the apartment’s attic, where he refused to come out, the release said. A SWAT team and K-9 were sent to the home to try to coerce him out.

A search warrant was obtained, and despite threats that the K-9 would “be placed in the attic and he would be bitten,” Collier didn’t surrender, the release said.

Pepper spray was deployed in the attic around 4 p.m., which is when Collier surrendered peacefully, the release said.

Collier faces charges of robbery and obstruction of officers, with other charges pending, the release said. He’s being questioned by investigators before being booked into the Spalding County jail.

“There is a strong possibility that he is one of the suspects the Griffin Police Department is seeking for additional charges relating to robberies that have occurred inside the city limits,” Sheriff Darrell Dix said in the release.

Another man, 18-year-old Caleb Barkley, was also charged with obstruction of officers and hindering the apprehension of a fugitive, the release said.
