The man and his girlfriend were at their home taking photos of themselves with the gun when the incident happened, the Skagit Valley Herald reported. The girlfriend said they had done this multiple times earlier in the day and the man was "apparently removing the bullets and then reloading the gun multiple times."

Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Patrol Chad Clark told the Skagit Valley Herald that a bullet was in the barrel when the gun discharged.

Selfies have led to deadly results: India recently mandated "selfie-free zones" after multiple deaths and a rare dolphin was killed when tourists in Argentina brought it out of the water for selfies and then left it on the beach to suffocate. Also, a study last year that revealed people die more often when taking selfies than from shark bites.
