Two people found dead inside a Norcross home Monday afternoon had been deceased for “at least several days,” authorities said.

Norcross police spokesman Capt. Bill Grogan said that an officer was flagged down around 2:45 p.m. Monday by a man cutting the grass at a home on the 450 block of North Norcross-Tucker Road. The man reportedly told authorities that he had not seen the home’s female resident in several weeks, and that he “smelled the strong odor of something deceased” coming from inside.

Officers smelled the odor, too, Grogan said, and forced entry into the home after no one answered.

Two bodies were found inside and appeared to have been decomposing for “at least several days, if not weeks,” Grogan said.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Norcross police completed their initial investigation into the incident at 8 p.m. Monday. The victims, one female and one male, were found in different rooms in the house, Norcross police said.

A possible cause of death is still unknown. Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday evening, after which investigators hope to get a clearer picture of what happened in the residence.
