A Carrollton man, woman and child were hospitalized Tuesday after the cab police allege they stole crashed during a chase in Alabama.
The couple, whose names have not been released, face multiple charges in connection with an alleged carjacking.
Carrollton police Capt. Chris Dobbs said the couple called for the cab after a fire struck their residence in the city. They left the burned residence with a young child and went to a fast-food restaurant in the area, he said.
Once at the restaurant, Dobbs said, the couple had the driver pull over, where police say they robbed him at gunpoint. The cabdriver was able to call police, and Bremen authorities located the cab when it entered I-20, Dobbs said.
Bremen police chased the cab into Alabama, where the Alabama Highway Patrol got involved. The cab crashed in Heflin, Ala., and all three people in the vehicle were injured.
Dobbs said the woman was taken to a hospital by helicopter, and the man and the child were transported by ambulance.
The fire and the alleged carjacking are both under investigation, Dobbs said.
