A Carrollton man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly trying to rape a woman inside a hospital bathroom, authorities said.

Dennis Xavior Farmer, 21, is accused of following the woman into the bathroom, placing his hand over her mouth and trying to sexually assault her, Carrollton police Capt. Shannon Cantrell said.

The woman told police she was at Tanner Medical Center off Dixie Street with her boyfriend, who was being treated. While walking to the bathroom, she heard loud music in the hallway and spotted Farmer, who was wearing a red hoodie and black pants with gold stripes, Cantrell said.

Farmer looked at her before turning around, and she entered the bathroom. She told police he put his hand over her mouth and grabbed her waist while she was at the sink counter.

She told him she was pregnant and screamed until he let her go, Cantrell said. The woman then found a hospital employee, who called security and police.

The woman didn’t see him enter the restroom, which doesn’t have a door. Instead, it has a short hallway that ends with a left turn, meaning that someone standing with their back to the hallway could potentially not see or hear anyone approach.

Farmer was spotted by police near one of the hospital’s parking decks and arrested on a count of criminal attempt to commit rape, Cantrell said. He was wearing the same clothes the victim described.
