Alpharetta police are searching for whoever stole more than $32,000 worth of computers from an information technology support office last week.

Medicus IT was broken into Sept. 16 and 50 new computers went missing, police spokesman Jeff Ross told Channel 2 Action News. The thieves shattered a window to enter the office building near North Point and Encore parkways.

It was discovered that the computers were missing when the company performed an inventory check after the break-in, Channel 2 reported.

“These computers were valued at over $650 each, so when you add that up, that’s over $32,000 in items, which is a big alarm,” Ross said.

A cleaning crew working in the facility the night before forgot to reset the building’s security alarms before they left, he told the news station. The motion sensors on the building worked, but police weren’t able to get clear video of the suspects.

“Somebody did come in the early hours of the morning and was moving around, so that looks like when the computers went missing,” he said.

The company told Channel 2 it wasn’t going to comment on the incident. Police are still looking through security footage to get a good image of the suspects.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to contact Alpharetta police at 678-297-6300.
