Troup County deputies are looking for a group of burglars who drove a stolen truck through a LaGrange gun shop early Wednesday and took firearms.

Authorities were dispatched to the FMJ Armory on West Point Road about 5 a.m. after a burglar alarm was activated, Troup County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Stewart Smith said.

When deputies arrived seven minutes later, they noticed a large hole in the side of gun shop where a vehicle had been driven into the store.

After driving through the wall, an unknown number of burglars began smashing glass cases and stealing handguns and rifles, investigators said.

Police did not say how many weapons were taken.

While investigating the burglary, deputies learned the truck used in the break-in was stolen from a home in LaGrange. It was found abandoned on Avery Drive, not far from the gun shop, Stewartr said.

Detectives believe that after stealing the weapons, the group ditched the truck and left the scene in separate vehicles.

Police do not have any suspects in the case. Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call Troup County deputies at 706-883-1616 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
