The older brother of two teenagers serving time for murder was arrested again in Atlanta over the weekend.

Charles Mahlon McDaniel was arrested Saturday on 15 charges after an alleged crime spree in metro Atlanta, including stealing a Georgia State University student’s vehicle, Atlanta police said.

His two younger brothers, Charlie and Isaac McDaniel, are serving 18-year prison sentences after being convicted of murdering a 50-year-old man in 2016, AJC.com previously reported.

The eldest McDaniel is accused of stealing the student’s Audi SUV two weekends ago from a valet in Buckhead, police said. The student, who asked Channel 2 Action News to remain anonymous, said he took the vehicle after stealing several sets of keys.

“Apparently the gentleman came and stole multiple sets of keys from the valet box,” the student told Channel 2. “Mine was there, so he just jumped in and left.”

In the following week, Charles McDaniel was accused of committing several crimes, including stealing a BMW SUV in South Fulton at gunpoint with a group of other suspects, police said.

On Saturday, Atlanta police officers spotted both stolen vehicles near Cleveland Avenue and Metropolitan Parkway. The suspects in the BMW escaped capture, while the Audi that Charles McDaniel was driving crashed into another vehicle, injuring two other drivers, Channel 2 reported. The injured drivers are expected to make a full recovery.

Channel 2 reported that Charles McDaniel ran from police after the crash, leading an officer to use a Taser on him.

He’s had several recent arrests in Cobb and Fulton counties, according to court records.

In June, he was arrested in Fulton on multiple felony charges stemming from an April incident, where he was charged with felony theft, obstruction and multiple driving citations.

A month earlier, he pleaded guilty in Cobb to theft and obstruction as part of a plea deal to avoid prison time. As a result, he received probation, which the Fulton arrests violated, according to jail records. He was 20 years old when he pleaded guilty.

After his most recent arrest, he was denied bond. He remains in the Fulton jail to face four counts of hit-and-run, four counts of second-degree criminal damage to property and one count of felony theft, obstruction and financial transaction card theft in addition to four misdemeanors, jail records show.

AJC.com has reached out to Atlanta police to learn more about his full list of charges.

His rap sheet pales in comparison to his brothers', who had more than 100 police interactions before their murder conviction. Charlie McDaniel was 16 and Isaac McDaniel was 15 when their mother turned them in after the shooting death of Anthony Brooks outside a southwest Atlanta gas station.
