The man accused of shooting a toddler outside a DeKalb County Kroger won’t get a break on his bond amount, a judge decided Wednesday.

Chazrel Burton is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and criminal damage for allegedly shooting into a car outside the Kroger on Memorial Drive, hitting and injuring a 2-year-old inside.

Bond for the 21-year-old Burton was originally set at $500,000, but he sought on Wednesday to have the amount reduced, according to court records.

Police said Chazrel tried to rob someone coming out of the store on June 26, and when the child’s father came to the likely victim’s rescue, Chazrel began firing into the car.

He eluded police capture for several days, before a wide-scale search his surrender on July 3.

But DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Daniel Coursey denied Chazrel’s request, and he will remain in the DeKalb County jail until he can pay 10 percent of the bond amount or until his case goes to trial.
