Atlanta police responded to a report of a carjacking and kidnapping on Greenbriar Parkway.

Atlanta police said Thursday evening that an earlier report of a carjacking and a 2-month-old child in the vehicle were false.

“At this time, investigators have learned there was no child present at the time of the incident,” Sgt. John Chafee said in a statement. “Furthermore, there was no carjacking that took place.”

Police initially responded to a carjacking call in the 2700 block of Greenbriar Parkway, Officer Jarius Daugherty said. Later, however, he said, “The initial information indicated a female was carjacked and her 2 month old was still inside the vehicle. At this time, there are indications this story may not be accurate.”

Surveillance video obtained by Channel 2 Action News showed that the woman who told police she was carjacked got out of the front passenger seat and walked away.

She also told police she had an infant in the car, the station reported.

Another man got out of the back seat, walked away, then returned, jumped in the driver’s seat and drove off, the video showed.

“Investigators are still interviewing the female,” Chafee said, “and the investigation continues.”
