An Atlanta man pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking charges after he was caught shipping large quantities of marijuana through the postal service, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Connecticut.

Shamar “Sheist” Madden, 38, regularly traveled from Georgia to Connecticut to pick up his share of cash as part of a marijuana trafficking group, investigators said. Between August 2016 and February 2017, Madden and other co-conspirators shipped more than 200 pounds of marijuana from California to Connecticut, where they distributed it, according to prosecutors.

In February 2017, Madden was stopped at LaGuardia Airport in New York and had nearly $20,000 in cash, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. A second man involved in the trafficking, Malek Long, was hiding $404,000 in two lockers at a self-storage facility, investigators said. Both were arrested and charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute, and to possess with intent to distribute, 100 kilograms or more of marijuana.

Last year, Long pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 months in prison. Sentencing for Madden is scheduled for July 23. He is free on $50,000 bond.
