A community football coach was arrested on a battery charge after an incident involving a student, Athens-Clarke County police said.

Anthony Lonon, a Clarke County School District employee, turned himself into the county jail Friday on the misdemeanor charge, the police department said in a press release.

His arrest stems from an incident between Lonon, 44, and a student-athlete after football practice. A police officer was called to Clarke Middle School on Aug. 20 to speak with a woman about the incident, which happened the previous day at Clarke Central High School, according to a police report obtained by AJC.com. She said the incident involved her son and the football coach.

The details of the incident are not clear.

Lonon’s bond was originally set at $2,500 but he was eligible to be released on his own signature, officials said.
