Police were able to nab a few copper thieves after they tried to escape down a drainage pipe, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The men alleged stole thousands of dollars worth of copper Saturday from two U-Haul trucks near the Avalon complex on Old Milton Parkway in Alpharetta, Channel 2 reported.

"One of our police officers working an extra job at the site and saw one of the U-Hauls parked in a garage,” Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordan said.

Police were able to catch the suspects after a chase, but not before they tried to escape.

Dashcam footage obtained by Channel 2 shows police cutting off the truck, and the alleged robbers fleeing the scene – one even tried going down a “drainage culvert and into water,” Gordon told the news station.

Two of the men were caught and arrested. Police are looking for one other suspect connected to the crime.

“This whole thing was just a bad decision by three people to come to Avalon and commit crime,” Gordon said.
