171 police shootings in Georgia since 2010. Zero prosecutions.

That's the finding of a special AJC/Channel 2 Action News investigation into what happens when police shoot and kill a civilian in the line of duty in Georgia.

One big reason? Police officers in Georgia have a privilege that private citizens don't have: they can be present in a grand jury considering charges against them, and make an unchallenged statement in their defense at the end.

Find out what prosecutors and others think about the special privilege in Sunday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution and on MyAJC.com.
