Three people were arrested after they were caught allegedly burglarizing a northwest Atlanta elementary school, where they tried to make off with bags filled with computers, fake money and school supplies, according to police.

The three — two adults and a juvenile — were found Friday inside William M. Boyd Elementary after being caught on surveillance cameras around 2 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. Warren Pickard with Atlanta police said. The three suspects were still at the school, located at 1891 Johnson Road, when officers arrived.

Notebooks, pens, pencils, candy, Crayola markers, three packs of fake green money, three laptop computers, two projectors, speakers, a camera and ear buds were found in the suspects’ bag, according to police. All items were returned to the school.

Marcellus Tarik Copeland, 18, and Kijon Griffin, 17, were both arrested and charged with burglary, along with an unidentified juvenile, according to police. Griffin also was charged with giving a false name.

Copeland of College Park and Griffin of Atlanta were being held Monday night on $15,000 bond each at the Fulton County jail, records showed. The juvenile was taken to Metro Youth Detention Center after his arrest, police said.

The incident happened eight days after shots were fired at a cafeteria worker as she tried to stop suspects from stealing her purse in the school's parking lot, according to police.

On Friday, police released sketches of those believed responsible for stealing the woman’s purse.

It was not known Monday whether investigators believed the incidents were related.
