A waitress working at a Waffle House in Greensboro, North Carolina, got a nice surprise when she was tipped $1,000 by a country music star.

That night, Shirell “Honey” Lackey was working a double shift and caring for her daughter as she tended to customers at the busy restaurant.

The musician, whom Lackey would like to keep anonymous, and his entourage came in to pick up a to-go order. After leaving an initial $50 tip, the country singer was inspired to leave an additional $1,000 when he witnessed Lackey’s work ethic.

“He was like, ‘I have to respect a mother that would do whatever it takes to support their child in a society where people don’t even want to work anymore,’” Lackey remarked to WGHP.

The anonymous star also gifted Lackey two concert tickets and sent new baby clothes and toys to her home for her daughter.

“It feels good to be recognized. I mean, I don’t do it to be recognized, I do it because Bella is everything, but it’s nice to be recognized for doing the things we do as mothers,” Lackey said.

News of generous tipping has become more commonplace during the COVID-19 pandemic, as celebrities and anonymous tippers alike give back to service workers facing uphill odds.

Tom Selleck began to leave $2,020 tips, sharing the act on social media to encourage others to do the same.

In Austin, Texas, one restaurant reopened and found a customer left $1,300 to staff as a “welcome back” tip, “Good Morning America” reported.

And in June, an anonymous customer at a New Hampshire restaurant left a whopping $16,000 tip for the staff, Nexstar reported.
