The College Park mother charged with shooting her son to death at a house party on April 4 allegedly was involved in a plan to escape jail, Channel 2 Action News reported Wednesday.
The mother, Latoya Tilson, fired into a brawling crowd and hit her son, Pierre Tilson, 15, and a 17-year-old, police said.
Channel 2 reporter Mark Winne, citing an incident report, said authorities found Tilson might have been planning to use a visit to her son’s funeral to make a getaway.
Fulton County authorities learned of the alleged plot while monitoring jail phone calls, Channel 2 reported.
Pierre Tilson was trying to break up a fight between adults and teenagers when several shots were fired.
College Park officers who went to an apartment complex that Saturday night saw Pierre Tilson wasn’t moving. He had a bullet in his head, and wasn’t breathing, police said.
Witnesses said Latoya Tilson shot him.
Latoya Tilson was arrested and booked into the Fulton County jail on charges related to the shooting. Pierre Tilson, who was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, died April 6.
Witnesses said Latoya Tilson initially was also trying to break up a fight at the apartment complex.
Police said that while trying to break the fight up, she was hit in the face, then pulled out a small-caliber handgun and fired several shots into the crowd.
Latoya Tilson, 33, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless conduct, cruelty to children, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, violation of the family violence act and carrying a concealed weapon, Fulton County jail records showed.
