Cobb police were on the scene Tuesday night of a car crash along the 2100 block of East Piedmont Road that trapped one of the drivers involved.
Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said the incident occurred when a car ran into the back of a semi-truck. The car’s driver was trapped in his vehicle but conscious as officials were on the scene around 9 p.m., Pierce said.
Gene Harrison, a man who lives in the area, said he was watching Game 1 of the World Series when the crash occurred. The sound of it and emergency personnel’s response led him to check out what had happened.
“There’s debris all over the road,” Harrison said. “There’s a car that went off the road and went in almost into the house down there. And there appeared to be a young driver, and he was in pretty bad shape, and they had to cut him out.
“I was talking to one of the ladies that was down there (near the crash site), and she said that they were on their back porch, they live two doors down from where the car went in, and she said they jumped up and ran down there and walked over to the guy, and they said he couldn’t move his head, he was in pretty bad shape. She said she was tapping him on the shoulder, saying ‘Hang on, someone will be here soon,’” he added.
The driver was transported to a hospital and there was no immediate word on his condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
