Ball Ground Elementary School STEM Academy teacher Joy Silk has been named the Cherokee County School District’s Teacher of the Year.

Silk, who has taught in the CCSD since 2000, was notified during a surprise presentation Monday by Superintendent of Schools Frank Petruzielo. She is a STEM lab and AIM program gifted program teacher at the campus.

Her reaction on being named top teacher? “It doesn’t get any better than this.”

The district’s teacher of the year is picked by a panel of community leaders, who evaluate each of the teachers of the year at the school level.

Silk will be honored in December at the district’s annual banquet. She’ll also be entered as the CCSD’s nominee for Georgia teacher of the year 2016, to be announced in the spring.
