Mickey Channell, R-Greensboro, chairs the House Ways and Means Committee, and Butch Parrish, R-Swainsboro, chairs the House Appropriations subcommittee on health. The health care lobby often wines and dines the two men, who usually take their wives along. The AJC examined 2012 disclosures by seven health care lobbyists and found that they treated the two couples to 36 meals and at least three out-of-town conferences. Said Channell: "They just like to go to dinner because I've got a great personality, and they like to laugh at my jokes. Or I have a significant role in shaping health care policy in this state. I'm not sure which one it is." He noted: "I'm accessible to constituents in a similar fashion. I guess it's worked pretty well, since I'm entering my 21st year as a representative from this part of the state."
