A 33-year-old career criminal was sentenced to 19 1/2 years in federal prison for the armed robbery of a BB&T Bank in Riverdale.

Tavares Keith came into the bank on Highway 85 on March 10, wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and a black ski-mask and armed with a .40 caliber handgun. According to the FBI, Keith pointed his gun at the bank manager’s stomach and yelled, “Give me all the money!”

While Keith was collecting about $4,140 in cash from the tellers, the manager slipped into his office and called Riverdale police.

Police captured Keith after a short foot chase. According to the FBI, which also investigated the robbery, Keith had the cash, the mask and the hooded sweatshirt when he was caught.

Having pleaded guilty on July 25, Keith was sentenced Wednesday.

The FBI said in a statement Keith is an armed career criminal who has been previously convicted of multiple crimes, including at least four felonies.
