I-85 briefly closed by suspicious package scare

I-85 south of Cheshire Bridge Road was shut down Saturday morning by another suspicious package false alarm, Atlanta police said.

The alert over the package — which ended up being a black bag containing a number of small boxes — shut down I-85 southbound just south of the Cheshire Bridge exit from around 9 a.m. until 11:15 a.m., police spokesman John Chafee said.

A rash of suspicious package reports have kept the Atlanta police bomb squad scrambling this week in the wake of Monday’s Boston Marathon bombing. The packages have all proved to be harmless.
