Big delays are expected on the northbound Downtown Connector Saturday, when several lanes of the interstate will be be closed for road construction.
Four left lanes will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday between Langford Parkway and Central Avenue for pavement work, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
"If you can avoid using the northbound Connector during the day on Saturday, do it," said Shun Pringle, a district construction engineer for GDOT. "We believe traffic will be very heavy all day."
Other potential weekend traffic trouble spots include Ga. 400 northbound, where two right lanes will be closed between I-85 and Sidney Marcus Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and I-285 in both directions between Roswell Road and West Paces Ferry Road, where there will be triple lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
All three projected closures are weather permitting, and the forecast will likely permit all of the planned roadwork.
Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said skies will be sunny Saturday and Sunday, with highs each day in the upper 60s. Morning lows will be in the low 40s Saturday and low 50s Sunday, Minton said.
Weekend events include Saturday's LepreCon 2014 at Midtown's Park Tavern; the Atlanta Fair, which is set up in Turner Field's gray parking lot through April 6; and the 11th Annual Southeastern Cowboy Gathering Saturday at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville.
