A man who was thrown from his motorcycle during a wrong-way crash on I-85 was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer in Gwinnett County on Sunday, police said.

Just before 10 p.m., the motorcycle was traveling north on the southbound right shoulder near mile marker 125, according to a Gwinnett police incident report released Tuesday. The motorcycle swerved to avoid an unoccupied Nissan Altima parked on the shoulder, but was unable to do so in time.

A passenger on the motorcycle was able to jump off before the crash and suffered minor injuries, the report said. The driver, Eduard Onufriychuk, 25, of Maysville, was ejected into the right lane of travel after the wreck, according to police.

Onufriychuk was then fatally struck by a tractor-trailer, the report said. No one else was injured during the crash.

This is the investigator's drawing of how the fatal wreck took place.
