After spotting a red Mustang that had just been tagged as the suspect’s vehicle in an armed robbery at a McDonald’s, Roswell police officers jumped into action Sunday morning.

One of the officers who had responded to the robbery call at the restaurant at 2950 Holcomb Bridge Road believed he saw the car and began to try to get a closer look, according to a news release posted on the department’s Facebook account. The Mustang was in the area of Holcomb Woods Parkway, just north of the McDonald’s.

Realizing he was identified, police said the suspect took off. But he quickly lost control of the car, went airborne and crashed through a large commercial sign at the Holcomb Woods business park, according to authorities.

With the vehicle disabled, a foot chase began.

The officers said the suspect, who is accused of entering the McDonald’s and pointing a gun at employees while demanding money, fled into a nearby treeline.

After a deliberate search of the busy area, they found 23-year-old Isaac Hammond of Fort Benning crawling out of some bushes at a home and took him into custody without a struggle, the release said.

Hammond, who witnesses said was wearing a medical mask during the robbery, is also charged with hit-and-run, fleeing, possession of a fireman during the commission of a felony, speeding, reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.

He was booked into the Fulton County Jail and remained there without bond Monday night.
