A Georgia prison doctor who was the subject of an Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation has been placed on administrative leave from his job, pending a review by his employer, Georgia Regents University.
The examination will focus on Dr. Yvon Nazaire, who has been linked to questionable deaths of at least nine women inmates. A university official confirmed the action Thursday. A source at Pulaski State Prison, where Nazaire is medical director, said the doctor did not come to work on Wednesday and that staff members were told he had been suspended.
The AJC on Sunday reported on the agonizing deaths of seven Pulaski inmates, some who went days, weeks and even months without care that might have saved or prolonged their lives. Earlier, the AJC reported on the deaths of two women at Emanuel Women’s Facility when Nazaire briefly served as medical director there. Read about the deaths and related investigations at MyAJC.com
