After more than two weeks on the run, an Atlanta inmate who left a transitional center is back in custody, authorities said.

Jeremy Deangelo Lewis, 32, was captured Tuesday morning in Anniston, Alabama, the Georgia Department of Corrections said in a tweet. Law enforcement officials had been searching for him since Feb. 15, when he absconded from the Atlanta Transitional Center.

Lewis was captured by the U.S. Marshals Service after the agency’s fugitive unit received leads that he was in Alabama, authorities said. Additional details about his arrest and where he had been hiding weren’t immediately available.

Lewis was a resident at the center serving a sentence for various charges, according to GDC records. He was convicted of burglary and theft by taking in 2017, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and attempted burglary in 2015, and multiple counts of burglary and criminal trespassing in 2010.

He was not eligible for release until January 2022, records show, but it’s unclear if Lewis will face additional charges after leaving the transitional center.
