Marathon season unofficially started Tuesday when the 500 banners that will be unfurled along the raceway were unveiled.
The banners line the streets from Hopkinton to Boylston Street for the Boston Marathon in April.

In displaying the banners Tuesday, Mayor Marty Walsh said it’s more than just a race.
He says it's a palpable feeling and a call to be everyday what Boston represents on Marathon Monday.
The theme is “Make it Your Moment” and the hashtag is #BeBoston.
“Being Boston is showing determination and resolution despite any challenge or obstacle,” John Hancock’s James Gallagher said.
They are traits hard-won collectively, in a single day.
“Marathon Monday 2013 was one of Boston's darkest days, but we emerged from that moment with a newfound strength. It became a moment, and nothing says that louder than One Boston Day."
One Boston Day came about following an outpouring of people wanting to give and do something in the wake of the bombings.
Mayor Marty Walsh says it's a day to honor those who were lost and those whose lives were changed forever in ways big and small.
“You'll see spontaneous acts of kindness on One Boston Day this year and grace,” Walsh said.
Saturday, April 15, two days before the race, has been declared One Boston Day. In the last several years, it's been marked by charitable giving and pledges of kindness – expressions that are as unique as the people behind them.
“That's why our theme this year 'Make it your Moment' is important,” said Walsh.
Supporters of One Boston Day say April 15 is a day to reclaim what others would like to have stolen.
“It’s proof the best way to drive out darkness is with light,” Walsh said.
