You’ll need the coats and scarves as you head to work or send the kids to school Wednesday, when morning temperatures will be in the teens.

But the forecast finally includes a break in the below-freezing temperatures, according to chief meteorologist Glenn Burns with Channel 2 Action News. Thanks to sunshine, Wednesday afternoon's high should climb into the lower 40s, Burns said.

It will still be chilly, but the warmer temperatures will be welcome relief to two days of icy-patched roads, frozen pipes and record-setting cold. MARTA advised rail passengers that cold temperatures for the third morning could cause technical problems and delays Wednesday, but all buses will be on their normal weekday schedule.

The warm-up is expected to continue through the end of the week, and by the weekend, temperatures will reach the 60s. Still, there’s a trade-off for the warmer weather, Burns said.

The rain is on the way.

Saturday’s forecast includes an 80 percent chance of rain, followed by a 70 percent chance Sunday.
