The armed man who barricaded himself inside a Dalton carpet company building surrendered Tuesday night without incident, police said.

The 45-year-old man was transported to Hamilton Medical Center around 9:30 p.m. to be evaluated for his own safety, Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier said.

The standoff began around 5:30 p.m. after the man reportedly had a fight with his wife in the parking lot of the Eligere manufacturing facility where they both work, police said. Investigators said the man was intoxicated and agitated, and his wife reported that he had a gun when he went inside the building. It is unclear who called 911, Frazier said.

No employees were inside and no injuries were reported.

The man later surrendered after meeting with his attorney and Dalton detectives, Frazier said.

No charges have been filed.

The investigation is continuing.
