Q: Many years ago, my mother and aunts would use Jubilee wax to clean just about everything in their kitchens, and even bathrooms. I would love to find some of this wax again. I know it was discontinued a long time ago. I heard that it was back but that you had to buy it by the case. I just want a bottle. I hope you can help. Thank you. — Sharon Jackson, Atlanta

A: While SC Johnson stopped making this venerable kitchen cleaner ages ago, Malco Products has stepped up and brought back the original creamy formula used to clean everything in the kitchen from counter tops to toasters. You can buy single 15-ounce bottles of Jubilee Kitchen Wax for $7.95 through www.vermontcountrystore.com or by calling 800-547-7849.

Q: This may be a new one for you. I'm looking not for a product, but for a flavor. I have tried unsuccessfully at several bakeries and grocery stores to find authentic tasting sourdough bread. Although labeled as such, so far nothing has come even remotely close to the taste of sourdough. I'm sure asking for real San Francisco sourdough in Atlanta is a waste, but can you find a decent imitation? I would certainly appreciate it. — Zar Rochelle, Atlanta

A: Authentic San Francisco sourdough bread is pretty elusive, but let’s see if we can find a version that you’ll consider close to the real deal. The bakery at Star Provisions, 1198 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta, 404-365-0410, turns out sourdough loaves with plenty of crust and an obvious sourdough bite that gets some of its punch from a 19-year-old starter. Each unsliced loaf weighs in at about a pound, and sells for $5.

Q: We live in Murphy, N.C., part time, and I shop periodically in Canton and Atlanta. I used to be able to buy Hagerty Silver Dip at Bed Bath and Beyond, however, they no longer carry it, and can't find it anywhere. — C. Randall, email

A: Hagerty Silver Dip allows you to remove tarnish on your silver pieces instantly, without using any elbow grease. Simply dip and rinse. You can find jars of Hagerty for $9.99 at Intown Ace Hardware, 1404 Scott Blvd., Decatur, 404-378-6006. Hagerty is located in the store’s aisle four.

Q: I can't seem to find those portable heating units that usually have two electric cooking elements on them like the older model electric ovens. Have they stopped making these units? — William McKee Jr., Flowery Branch

A: William, these countertop hotplates are still available, and if you check out www.amazon.com, you'll find plenty of them. However, some models aren't very heavy duty, and many are pretty pokey when it comes to heating pots of water. My suggestion is to take a look at Atlanta Fixture and Sales, 3185 Northeast Expressway, Atlanta, 770-986-9202, www.atlantafixture.com. You'll find the sturdy Cadco CDR-1T 120-volt, double burner hotplate. The countertop unit features power light indicators to let you know when a burner is on. It's clad in stainless steel for easy cleaning. The hotplate is priced at $135. Atlanta Fixtures can order it and have the burner shipped to its store where you can pick it up at no extra charge or, for an additional $40, you can have it shipped to your door. This model is slightly more expensive than what you'll see at other outlets, but I think you'll find that it stands up to wear much better.
