Jerry B. Sherman, a long-time supporter of the Atlanta Regional Office of the United Negro College Fund, has donated $175,000 to the non-profit.

The Greenville, S.C., resident made the donation in June and, in August, Jim Sherman, the executor of his uncle’s estate, made an additional $5,000 to the office.

Jim Sherman said that his uncle was raised by a single mother during the depression and believed that education was one of the keys to his success as an engineer.

Jerry B. Sherman retired to Greenville and took an interest in supporting the community of which he was a part by investing in the education of students who needed financial assistance to get to and through school.

Justine Boyd, director of development in the Atlanta regional office, said thousands of students would benefit from the donation.

UNCF will honor Jerry Sherman during its upcoming “A Mind is…” gala March 16 in Greenville.
