Ashes to go: St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church will celebrate Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, with a special "Ashes to Go" event in their parking lot from 2:45-3:05 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18. The free event is designed to remind people that need, humility and healing shouldn't be confined to an edifice. "Stop by the church parking lot and receive a cross of ashes on the forehead. This is just long enough for the priest to say to the recipient, 'You are dust and to dust you shall return.' This outward sign reminds [everyone] of [their] own mortality and the need for self-examination and repentance," said Rev. Wells Newell Graham, senior assistant to the rector.
