Barker, a 3-month-old chocolate labrador retriever, is a high-energy, wiggly puppy who is going to be a big, goofy boy when he is full grown. Chocolate labs tend to be more energetic than black or yellow labs, but they have just as much love to give (with sloppy kisses, of course!). They need structure and training to be their best, and Barker will definitely benefit from early obedience. The Atlanta Humane Society has training classes and private lessons to help you teach your canine pals. Crate training is recommended for all new adoptees to help with housetraining and general adaptation to a new environment; most dogs learn to love their crates, and they certainly help the humans to be less frustrated. Labs tend to be great family dogs, though their exuberance can be a bit much for younger children, so supervision is critical. They need plenty of exercise and stimulation, including daily walks. A fenced yard will be a plus for Barker, and will make training and exercise much easier. He should get along fine with existing dogs in the home, but bring any dogs (and children) you currently have to be sure. He will be available at 2 p.m. today at the Atlanta Humane Society Howell Mill Campus, 981 Howell Mill Road N.W. Sealed bids will be accepted starting at 10 a.m. if more than one party is interested. Please note that the highest bidder must meet adoption qualifications. Look at all our available pets at www.atlantahumane.org.
