Before Koto Nakamura and her husband, Sina Niakansafy, welcomed their child, they were expecting a girl.
The Tasmania, Australia, couple already had pink gifts for their baby before the delivery.
Today.com reported that Nakamura and Niakansafy had been told by ultrasound techs they were having a girl, and planned to name their daughter Hinata.
But when Nakamura gave birth, she was told she had a boy and the look of shock, captured by Jessica Jackson, owner of Itty Bitty Photography, is priceless.
"I thought everyone was joking," Nakamura said. "I lost words and I couldn't believe it until I saw his bottom."
"I was shocked for a few seconds, and then it didn't matter if it was a girl or a boy," Nakamura said.
"This was one of the most amazing moments — a roller coaster of emotions in just a few short minutes," said Jackson. "Pure shock, disbelief, excitement, happiness and relief. This is the reason why birth photography is so important. Imagine when (the baby) is all grown up and his parents are telling his birth story to him and they have these images to share -- the way they looked when they found out this news."
The baby, Nakamura's first, is named Taiga, a Japanese name that means "big" and "courageous."
