Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal with a butterfly? Here's your chance. The Butterfly Encounter exhibit at Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell is open daily through July 31.

At the exhibit, you can feed butterflies and learn more about them. This is a great way for kids and parents to not only gain an understanding about metamorphosis, but also to learn which plants butterflies in our area need for food and shelter.

You'll learn how to help and encourage these creatures to survive.

In the tented exhibit, native butterflies are surrounded by colorful nectar plants. Photo opportunities abound, so be sure to bring your camera.

While there, you can also learn how to attract butterflies to your garden. Butterfly host and nectar plants will be for sale.

The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and is included with general admission.

Butterfly Encounter will also be open during Sunset Sips, 6:30-9:30 p.m., Thursday, June 23 and July 14. Sunset Sips is a relaxed event on the nature center grounds and includes live local music and a cash bar. Feel free to bring a picnic dinner.

During Sunset Sips, you'll see how butterflies slow down at dusk and even tuck in for the evening. Sunset Sips is included with general admission and is free to members.

Another event this summer is Breakfast with Butterflies, 10 a.m. to noon, Sunday, July 10. It's a family-friendly morning with exclusive access to Butterfly Encounter that includes breakfast treats. Registration is required; call 770-992-2055, Ext. 233 to sign up.
