The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site will temporarily close the park’s visitor center for maintenance work.
The visitor center, which is located at 450 Auburn Ave. N.E., will close Monday and reopen Oct. 16.
During the closure, facility maintenance work will take place, including cleaning the building's HVAC system, removing and reinstalling wall panels and repairing and resealing the ceiling and floor.

Until it reopens park rangers will staff an outdoor visitor information table underneath the canopy at the visitor center entrance.
Other sites within the historic area will remain open, including: the Historic Fire Station No. 6, the King Center (including Freedom Hall and the gravesites of the Rev. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King) and the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and King’s birth home.
At the information table visitors can sign up for tour of the birth home and receive maps and information.
